You CAN’T be serious!

By

Do you ever wonder how many times on a daily basis we hear the word “can’t”?

“I can’t see myself doing that!”
“I just can’t lose weight!”
“I can’t give up coffee/tea/bread/etc!”
“I can’t commit to an exercise program”

And the worst of all:

“I can’t do it”

As you can see I’ve aimed most of these towards a fitness and health perspective but I’m sure if you thought about it you could think of other examples where sentences just like those are used on a daily basis.

I always remember someone saying to me a while ago “there’s no such word as CAN’T” and whilst it’s not strictly true :0) – it ought to be! Can’t is such a negative word and for somebody who maybe wants to make BIG changes to their life (whether its a personal goal, business goal or health & fitness goal) it won’t serve any purpose in helping you get to where you want to be.

Think about it:

“I CAN’T see myself doing that!”

I’m sure there was once a time when the world couldn’t see a big flying bus transporting people to far off destinations but nobody even bats an eyelid about flying by aeroplane nowadays! Cut the cr@p and give yourself credit! You can do whatever you put your mind to!

“I just CAN’T lost weight!”/”I can’t give up coffee/tea/bread/etc!”/”I can’t commit to an exercise program”

Very few people have a genuine medical reason for not being able to lose weight – I’m going to be harsh here. The cold hard fact of the matter is – you WON’T do what it truly takes to lose the weight. It could be that you need to give up tea & coffee, stop eating takeaways, eat more veggies and ditch the bread. As soon as you say “oh I just CAN’T give up [insert whatever applicable here]” what you’re actually saying is – you aren’t willing to.

Likewise – you say you CAN’T commit – I say no no, you WON’T commit. How many hours a day do you spend on Facebook or watching mind numbing reality TV? Does spending your time doing either of those two activities benefit or improve your life in any way? I doubt it – so turn it off and get active! You don’t need a gym to start an exercise program – if things were really that difficult you could train in your living room or back garden whilst the kids play/baby sleeps etc!.

You know deep down that there is literally no problem or barrier that you can’t work around – NOTHING is impossible – repeat that to yourself 10 times a day until you believe it! So make the best change you can this month and ditch the word CAN’T from your vocabulary! If you ever feel tempted to use it – replace it with the word WON’T – it might just make you think twice about using it………….
